Lavender
Scientific name: Lavandula
Family: Labiates (Lamiaceae)
Much beloved for its soothing, calming fragrance, lavender adds a touch of Mediterranean flair to any garden. It has been used to make fragrant bath essences as far back as Roman times. In fact, its name comes from the Latin word “lavare”, “to wash”. However, lavender also doubles wonderfully as a spice for both sweet and savoury dishes, as well as an infusion herb.
